More Configuration details for Bannerman Road School Machines
Network (default is fine)
Bristol Wireless Branding - includes:
- icons for all the childrens related programs given at the bottom of the DebianJunior page
- grub boot screen with extra instructions for booting
- desktop background
IRC
Email setup
Grub needs to be configured to remove extra options which will only confuse users - (I would recommend leaving most of the choices, they are useful for diagnostic purposes, and we do not fully know the consequences of chooseing one kernel over another for particular hardware yet. Users should be given instruction on the boot screen, and the time out should perhaps be lowered BenjaminGreen)
make default boot kernel - 2.6.7 800x600
add magico to the host files, change sources list to those given at
http://magico/ (internal network only - aka.
http://10.21.0.5/)
Scripting
as this is being done for 40 machines at least, we will need to write a script. A page is begun called BannermanScript
Server setup
What should go on the server for the school?
- An intranet website or BBS (probably best not PHPBB) possibly based on something like this wiki or PHPWebsite
- Moodle - Cirriculumn management softawre
- IRC server?
- Mail server?
- Gallery?
- remote backup software so they don't loose it all
