Problems
GCompris not working
Some machines may have left without GCompris working. The script was altered to include libsdl1.2debian in the packages to be updated. apt-get install libsdl1.2debian needs to be run on these machines to fix the problem.
CD-ROMs not working
Machines needing to be booted with dma=no (failsafe or similar) will have CD-ROMS that don't work after install. Putting an entry in hdparm.conf to turn off dma for /dev/hdc will fix this.
VGA boot problem
Some of the machines ask for a video mode when starting up. This is because vga=791 is passed to the kernel. If this part of the line is removed from the /boot/grub/menu.lst file then it won't happen. This problems cause the system to wait 30 seconds before booting, so is a bit of a pain.
ssh account
Bristol Wireless should have its own account on each machine with an better password than the current. Some kind of firewalling should also be enabled.
Script
We should produce a script to do all this for when we visit everyone. The script should also sort out sources.list to the current preference (depending on the method of updateing we can use at each site).
?AleFernandez - Just a small thing really but I could be useful as a test case as I'm one of the parents with a box at home out of the ones we did - so the main thing we had trouble with was the floppy drive not working direct out of konqueror and I had to do any floppy copying manually in a terminal. As most parents won't have printers or internet access this might be an issue.
