... make sure you get the LUG regulars to turn up with their best kit: things like Wi-Fi, DVD playing, image manipulation, sequenced music, games, and interesting hardware should work well. Perhaps a complete home or home office style workstation (software-wise) that people can have a go with.
Show a few different distros, offer to install Linux (or dual boot) on visitors' PCs, hand out (and demonstrate) Knoppix and TheOpenCD, perhaps charging for media.
You can give out info. sheets with these to inform / remind them about ?FreeSoftware? and give them some links to follow up at home.
My LUG will be setting up a LAN with (possibly selective, i.e. mirror.ac.uk) Internet access. Fortunately, there's an empty car park just outside -that's something you'll have to consider as well, along with signs (wooden stick, event name, picture of Tux, arrow), posters, and such trivial things as availability of coffee and snacks.
