At Bristol Wireless we love to educate through technology. Linux and the rest of the open source world already have a great selection of programs to offer. Here are some of our favourites low impact games (you can play these):

GCompris
Childsplay (like Gcompris, though many sections need sound)
Tuxpaint - superb junior painting program for kids 3 years and up, really, it's that simple.
Tuxmath (tux of math command)

gplanarity - mind exercising maths puzzle
Xaos - another one for all ages, if you can move a mouse at all, you can zoom in on a fractal.
gtans - A version of Tangrams
kstars - more info on the universe than you could shake several telescopes at.

Server side Education suggestions

Moodle is a VLE (virtual learning environment), a place on a web server, perhaps on the internet, or on an intranet, which provides a place to learn. There are lessons there, exams, quizzes and workshops, all in an easy to access form. There are a number of open source learning environments. Moodle is the most popular.

Debian Junior

The Debian Junior project is set up to give an easy way to install educational programs and games, ranging from simple spelling, number and memory tasks through to programming languages and system tools. The projects seeks to make sure that the programs are suitable for kids. Installing one of these 'junior-' packages listed on the left hand column installs all the packages listed on the right column. Packages as of 2005.
