What to do if your internet connection stops working
This document is intended for members of the Easton Residents Network who have been supplied with a Linux PC and wireless network connection by Bristol Wireless. You might find it helpful to print out a copy of this page and keep it near your computer.
If you lose your internet connection the first thing you need to do is check that the problem is not just with the website you are trying to view.
Launch your web browser (Mozilla, Firefox, etc.), if you haven't already done so. In the address bar type in the name of a commonly used website (e.g. www.google.com) and see if this comes up. If it doesn't try something else (such as uk.yahoo.com). If this still doesn't work move on to the next step.
Check the network cable is plugged in. This is the cable that runs from your access point (the blue Linksys box) to your computer. It has an end that looks like an oversized phone plug. Repeat step 1.
Turn the power to the access point off then turn it back on. Wait 20 seconds then repeat stage 1.
If it still doesn't work, please phone the Bristol Wireless office on 0117 902 5247. You will need to make a note of the IP address written on top of the access point. This will take the form of a number something like 10.3.0.5.
