Easton Community Centre

ECC Home

On 6th May 2005 we signed a contract with Chris Pickering of Future Learning Ltd. to reopen the ICT suite at Easton Community Centre following the closure of the ECA we agreed to run the suite from 9th May - 31st July 2005. We have a budget to reinstall the wireless equipment, run open access and provide a computer course for beginners between the 12pm to 4pm Mon to Fri. Other sums are for reinstalling Mepis to make the ICT dual boot, give away machines and marketing. We have placed advertisements in the Evening Post, had a banner printed which currently adorns the fron of the ECC and had posters and flyers printed for door to door distribution throughout Easton (more of these to come, volunteer distributors welcome).

Update

Unfortunately because the ECC has been broken into twice on consecutive days and various computer equipment has been stolen. Although this has not terminally affected our efforts we have been excluded from the ECC while security issues are resolved.

Update

As of today (7/6/5) we are functioning normally again and between us (Jim, Rich, Ben, Sam and Paul) we are providing the services we contracted to, come along and have a look.

Update

On 30th September 2005 Bristol Wireless concluded our tenure at the community centre which we extended into September to provide some kind of continuity until a new management takes over (announcement due Oct 4th 2005). We did take the whole of August off, mainly so the above participants could participate at varioius festivals, e.g. the Cyber Tent at the Big Green Gathering. We must have done something right because UFI who fund the UK Online centres have given us funding to run the ICT suite at the community centre for the coming year.

Update

Feb 4th. Bristol Wireless has relaunched its PC giveaway project. We have distributed another 15 machines in the first month of 2006. httpRead More...
