Firefox Help

Features

Firefox is a stand-alone web browser developed by the httpMozilla project with the following features:

  • intuitive interface;
  • blocks popup ads and (for Windows users) viruses and spyware;
  • easy to install;
  • tabbed browsing (one window containing several tabs, rather than lots of separate browser windows);
  • live bookmarks (automatic bookmark update);
  • integrated search bar (also customisable to include your favourite search engines);
  • customisable with plug-ins, extensions and themes (see below).

Plug-ins

Plug-ins are programs that allow websites to provide content to you and have it appear in your browser. Details of common plug-ins are on the Firefox & Mozilla httpsplug-ins page. For more information about other plug-ins available for Mozilla-based browsers like Firefox, visit httpPluginDoc.

Themes

Themes are skins that allow you to change the look and feel of Firefox to your liking. You can do this easily by downloading new themes from the Mozilla httpsthemes page.

Browser extensions

Extensions are small helper programs to extend the capabilities of your browser and to customise it to fit your needs. Mozilla has a httpsdedicated extensions page.

Other browsers

In addition to the Linux version of Firefox, we have installed httpOpera and the Windows version of Firefox on your computer.
