Free Computer

There are free computers available for people on any type of benefit or family tax credit.

Candidates will have to spend approximately 2 hours doing the on-line skills assessment.

Candidates must agree to do a follow-up telephone interview (approx. 30 min.).

Candidates should come to room 5 in the community centre on Thursday or Friday; you do not need an appointment. You should ask for the free computers.

There is a very limited number of computers.

Process reminder for tutors.

  • Check that there is a give-away machine available.
  • Show people to a terminal in the hall.
  • Take people to the FTOL website httphttp://www.ufi.com/ukonline_ia/
  • Get them to enter their first name and surname (no caps) as the username.
  • Get them to use 'wireless' as their password.
  • Enter the centre number, which is 3420062
  • Ask them if they are comfortable using computers.
  • Click through the first few pages of the FTOL assessment instructions with them.
  • Let the candidate know where you will be for the next hour or so.
  • When the candidate has completed the FTOL you must print their final summary sheet.
  • Look at how the candidate has scored and ask them what kind of courses they would be interested in. Use your googling skills or httphttp://preview.focusnewmedia.com/nextstep/ipoint/build/ to direct them to an appropriate course/ source of further information.
  • Participants must also be asked to fill out an e-skills passport httphttp://ufi.e-skillspassport.com/ using code B6FB-4B7A-B971.
  • Make sure that they complete a 'Welcome to Werburghs' monitoring sheet and staple this to the eskills printout sheet. Place the monitoring sheet in the silver box file labelled 'student details' that is in the third drawer of the filing cabinet in room 5.

If the candidate has transport then they can take a machine away. Clearly record the serial number of the computer and the date on the back of their summary sheet.

If they do not have transport, please attach a sticker to the machine clearly stating their name and telephone number.
