If you are new to the internet then this BBC course could be of benefit.
If you have problems using firefox, you may want to pretend you are using Internet Explorer instead; you can do so by installing the 
User agent switcher. This changes the way your browser identifies itself and thus fools some websites (e.g. online banking sites) into making them display properly and work correctly for you. Once installed, you can use the User agent switcher by going to Tools -> User agent switcher.
