Bristol Wireless is a major promoter of Open Source technologies in the City of Bristol. We are keen to be able to deliver the UN supported course "Introduction to the Linux Desktop" in IT facilities across the city, particularly in Community Education funded organisations and UK Online centres. This aims of the course are to
Any student completing the course would qualify for a free refurbished computer from Bristol Wireless running a GNU/Linux operating system.
What we can supply
- We can provide all courseware, student notes, teaching materials, etc. (for examples see below)
- We can provide qualified, experienced tutors
- Our expert engineers can convert any IT suite into a "dual boot" network
- Or we can provide LiveCDs for delivering IT classes based on Free Open Source Software (FOSS)
What we require
We are a small volunteer led and run organisation and as such, although our plans are big, our resources are at present limited. In order to run the courses we would like host organisations to:
- Promote, recruit to, and administer the courses as part of their educational programme
- Pay our tutors at standard Community Education rates
- Work with us to develop other FOSS courses, including an ECDL equivalent
