Level Two Node

level 2 re-broadcast locations

Proposed level 2 locations

Background

  • level 0 = 5.8 kit
  • level 1 - 2.4 sectors on tower blocks, and the clients that connect to those sectors
  • level 2 - access points that re-broadcast the wireless signal, and the clients that connect to those access points.

The radio that connects to the backbone with a directional antenna will be known as radio 1. The radio that re-broadcasts through the omni to the local area will be known as radio 2.

The backbone (level 1) will be running WAP54G with the standard Linksys firmware.

Hardware Specification

  • We need to be able to set a minimum connect speed to our level 2 points so that slow connections do not drag down other users.
  • We would like to be able to limit the rate for unauthenticated (non-paying) customers and provide an unlimited service to our (paying) customers.
  • We would also like to be able to have a splash screen when clients connect to show local information and some top-level Bristol Wireless info.

Single board solution

1 httpwrap board 1 httpcompact flash card 2 mini pci wireless cards 2 pigtails 4 Ntype clamps (solwise) 4 metres lmr 400 1 omni 1 httpdirectional antenna 1 waterproof box 1 httpPOE kit

The board then runs httphttp://www.voyage.hk/ (Debian-based updated Pebble)

This solution is undergoing testing at the moment.
