Meta Packages And Repos

Background

Bristol Wireless are creating a package of all the software that we recommend and use for desktop computers. If you would like to try out our package, install the base Debian 4.0 'etch' system and then follow the instructions below.

Installing the package

Our package uses a number of none standard packages repositories. You should have the following in you /etc/apt/sources.list file:

deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian/ etch main contrib non-free
deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ etch main
deb http://security.debian.org/ etch/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://repo.bristolwireless.net/bw etch contrib

Once you have added these line to your /etc/apt/sources.list file, you may run:

$apt-get update
$apt-get install bristolwireless
$bw_setup

To synchronise your settings to bristol wireless one, as your normal user run:

Logout, login again, and you should have a bristolwireless configured desktop.

An alternative set of repositories

If you are connected to the Bristol Wireless network, you may use our local set of repositories. This will be a lot faster than the internet, unless you have a particularly fast connection.

deb http://magico.lab.bristolwireless.net/debian etch main contrib non-free
deb http://magico.lab.bristolwireless.net/debian-multimedia etch main
deb http://magico.lab.bristolwireless.net/debian-security etch/updates main contrib non-free
deb http://repo.bristolwireless.net/bw etch contrib

After the install process use the command below to give a sources.list that is on our own network.

$bw_setup local
