MATTERS ARISING
- AGM booking cancellation: - done.
- Recycling Project/Unmet Needs: Sean apologised for not having followed up this action point. However, Everton had subsequently followed it up in his stead.
- Sunderland LTSP: Woodsy gave a brief report of his recent visit to Sunderland as part of the DC10plus activities, plus his and Acesabe's visit to Knowle West Media Centre with the mobile suite. At the latter event our lunchtime demonstration was well visited by members of all groups in attendance, with considerable interest being shown in some quarters and live CDs also being distributed. KevinO'M confirmed our presence at both events had been well received.
REPORTS
- UFI update: Some of the equipment required for the joint project in Knowle West with ?StreetNet is not in stock. On a more positive note, the test portal page is ready and looking for testers (action - all). Finally, we were unsuccessful in our latest UFZI funding bid.
- Hacktionlab update: Woodsy reported that Hacktionlab had been well attended (mid-20s), at which all were well fed and watered, the latter due in part to the generous assistance of
Ciderpunk. Workshops were provided on wi-fi, 12 volt systems, video/audio streaming, video editing. Mike H thanked the Bristol Wireless advance party/tat-down crew (Acesabe, Lloyd, and Woodsy) for their assistance. It is hoped to hold another Hacktionlab in the autumn. Mike H then went on to give an update of festivals/events. Earthwise has been cancelled due to licensing difficulties. The next event we shall be attending with the LTSP suite is the Climate Camp in Kent (3-11/08/08). Mike will be getting insurance for the kit for Climate Camp and will check with Jules re. insurance cover for his laptop (action - MikeH). One possible event for attendance mentioned was Recidrate the West from 29-31/08/08, where some of us know the organisers. Finally, MikeH mentioned the possibility of getting Bristol Wireless added to the list of suppliers on welovefestivals.com. - Financial report: None due to treasurer being delayed on railway network.
AOB
- LTSP training: Woodsy stated that JimF and himself had recently expressed a wish to learn how to do LTSP installs and support and wondered if any formal training could be given in this. Providing training was thought by the meeting to be a good idea, particularly if it could involve Bails and BenG and could be offered as commercial training and a mail to this effect should be sent to daily list (action - Woodsy). Finally, it was noted that the LTSP documentation on the wiki needs collating and updating. JimF offered to look at this (action - JimF).
- Connecting Bristol: KevinO'M gave a comprehensive report on recent developments at Connecting Bristol. Firstly, the Enterprising Britain award (for which Bristol Wireless had been nominated by Connecting Bristol) had been won by Plymouth Chamber of Commerce. Secondly, as regards the joint project with ?StreetNet/Bristol Wireless in Knowle West, the install date has been set for 21 July; SamR is to check and give notice if this is not feasible (action - SamR). Thirdly, Kevin mentioned Connecting Bristol's involvement with an EU project (DHEMS) using ICT for monitoring environmental impact/climate change. This will involve equipment being installed in 10 homes in Knowle West with a support option for up to 50 households. A total of 5 countries are taking part in the scheme. Next Kevin reported that, after 6 months' negotiations with Corporate IT it had been agreed in principle that Bristol Wireless could have old BCC hardware for use in its recycling project. Moving onto DC10plus matters, Kevin informed the meeting that a scoping/mapping exercise would take place in South Bristol soon as part of the next generation access workstream investigating future connectivity. Finally, the next version DC10plus website is nearly ready to go live.
