Meeting at Easton Community Centre Tuesday 3rd August

Matters Arising:


1. Creative Commons licence: Issues arise around content provider information: Individuals can choose the BW CC approach or choose one of their own

ACTION: one week of notice and then decide

2. Finance;

Need finance only meeting within the next 4 weeks £800 cheque gone missing - lost cheque from ERN

T-shirt payments still not paid (Ian paid his)

Rent paid; phone, electric, rates to pay

ACTION: Accounts needed by the end of August

3. Courses: Suspended

Felt that ECC not totally behind the courses

Need funding to cover: admin, contingency, tutors, room (3 hrs), creche (3 hrs), preparation

Workshops: popular: can run DBA, Monitor-fixing etc.: To be considered

ACTION: Need to write proposal to other community educators to share this? (Sean)

Agenda items:


1. Fundraising: much discussion about this

  • whether fund-raising is part of, or an extra to the amount you apply for,

and whether BW is best served by using external professional fund-raisers or not.

Sam is happy to work with no wage, but suggests that he get paid for his work on successful application:

discussion followed about how much.

Sam is looking at Social Economy Fund, Bannerman Road, Longer Term Lottery cash

ACTION: Sam gets 7.5% of any funds he raises

Sam keeps time-sheet for transparency 3 month trial period

Any fund-raiser must administer the grant once it is granted - BW does not want them to raise cash and run off with the commission

2. Projects:

2a. Twinnall House: Paul can't contact caretaker. Matt identifies main man as Geoff (first one to let us up)

ACTION: Sean to uncover contacts for Paul

2b. ERN:Reliant on Twinnal antenna so has to wait until that is up

Want documentation about progress of project Need: Antenna, cable, rigging

OVER BUDGET: Matt concerned: only £800 left for remaining installations and they may cost more than that

ACTION: Paul to write a report about ERN progress

2c. Bannerman road school:Don't want computers immediately (staggered intake to school): roll out by Xmas

Teachers don't want too many questions!

IT suite semi-functional, drastically under-funded:

Translations: 4 or 5 different languages: is it possible to arrange for locale/language specific navigations?

PCs status: first 20 in Knowle with build-it crew (wipe and linux install): raises issues of Data Protection - more information on Wiki

Raised the issue of offering ISP-like service to put kids online: filtering?

how to handle issues of responsibility related to letting kids on the internet; discussed.

ACTION: plan by end of August including Ts and Cs

Site survey required Early September Meet with translators required

3. Placements:

3 on work placementsPathways visit: 11/08/04

Approach: keep things as they are (min hours: 16, max: 30 per week)

BUT Paul wants more structure: aims, objectives, goals etc. ACTION: meeting 05/08/04: 10:00 GMT: Lab
