Notes On LTSP4.2

howto Upgrade to LTSP-4.2

If you are on our local network you can visit httphttp://magico.bristolwireless.net for more instructions. There are package repositories for LTSP-4.2 and other versions, plus the 4.1 documentation.

This also covers most of the set up from the ground up, though you may have a few teething problems that are not covered here.

Here are a number of step for setting it up on Debian GNU/Linux:

  1. install ltsp-utils 0.20 from httpmagico or httpthe internet;
  2. install the server package from httpmagico or httpthe internet;
  3. run apt-get -f install to sort out the dependancies for these packages;
  4. run ltspadmin (the installer and configuration tool need to both be run);
  5. update dhcp.conf for the new kernel images and root path (and restart the dhcp server too);
  6. run update-rc.d ltspswapd defaults;
  7. run /etc/init.d/ltspswapd start;
  8. add all the users who are able to access local devices to the group fuse (add username fuse)
  9. make sure fusermount is excecutable by users ( chown :fuse /usr/bin/fusermount & chmod 4750 /usr/bin/fusermount ) and check that they are set correctly.

And that should be it. Consult the main documentation on httphttp://ltsp.org/ for more info. The troubleshooting and theory of operation sections of the 4.1.1 documentation are most useful.
