What Protocols

Encouraged Protocols

Our Wireless network is TCP/IP, current IPv4. For moving files about http and ftp may be used. We have experimented with various streaming and communication protocols with various degrees of success.

We hope that the network one day be able to support high (1-2Mbps) bandwidth multicast, but that time is not yet upon us.

In general we would like to support open non-proprietary protocols.

Discouraged/Banned Protocols

Everything is permitted, however, some protocols will be discouraged on the network. Use of SMB or NFS over the network is not really very healthy for the network. Anything which is likely to clog the network and impact on other users is bad.

If there is something particular and unusual you want to do on our network, have a chat with us first, particularly if it is bandwidth intensive.
