2.4Ghz is the publicly licensed frequency for computer networking. It has been made public because it is attenuated by water, and because it is too polluted. The wattage we can use is very limited. Regardless of this, we have been able to construct robust links over very large distances.
5.8Ghz is a partly licensed, partly publically licensed frequency that is also a possibility for us. It is also attenuated by water, but is not polluted as much. The equipment is, however, more expensive.
