Bristol Wireless website goes mobile

Android logoOver the past couple of days we’ve gone and updated our WordPress install and, as part of the update, we’ve also added the WPTouch plug-in to enable customisation of the site’s theme especially for folk with smartphones.

Apparently it delivers a fast, user-friendly and stylish version of your site to touch mobile visitors, without modifying a single bit of code (or affecting) your regular desktop theme.

According to the WordPress blurb, this is what the plug-in does:

“WPtouch automatically transforms your WordPress blog into an iPhone application-style theme, complete with ajax loading articles and effects, when viewed from an Apple iPhone / iPod touch, Google Android, Blackberry Storm and Torch, Palm Pre and other touch-based smartphones.”

WPTouch is produced by BraveNewCode, Inc.

Anyway, smartphone users, let us know how you get on below.

It looks exactly the same to me: and that’s a good thing. I dislike those “wp mobile” sites (using an Alex King plugin I think) where it’s an extra page download to read comments and some parts of the site are inaccessible. Just use a decent theme that degrades gracefully.

I’ve just visited a wp touch site and it’s nasty, hard to navigate and doesn’t obviously relate to the “real” version of the site. No, wp touch doesn’t seem active on BW and that’s good.
