Next meetings
I suggest Tuesday Jan 13th for the next meeting – 6.30, I’ll start writing an agenda up on the wiki, and we need to have a proper AGM, so we could plan it for Febuary at the January meeting.

MATTERS ARISING
TRAINING:
Linux training (with LPI certs) – Nothing moved forwards yet.
NODES:
Bristol Community Transport want one node. Should price up 5 wireless cards to keep instock permanently.
NEIGHBOURHOOD RENEWAL:
2 OAP homes online is a possible.
SURGERY:
Ran well. Four machines given away, and about four people interested in joining up to the network.
MEDIA CONTENT:
Is running on demand at up to 3Mbit via the network. Radio in progress. Demonstration day – probably a new project. Digital story-telling in development.
FINANCIAL REPORT
–
Jason is unavailable for comment. There is about £1600 in the bank, and we are spending about £100 a month just to tick over. No funding applications are in progress. Committed to paying for 5 wireless cards for ready-to-roll nodes.
PROJECTS
—
BANNERMAN ROAD SCHOOL:
People working for Bristol City Council living nearby have connected themselves to the network without our help. Very keen to give a recycled machine with wireless to every new student at Bannerman Road School in September 2004. Funding is available! Around 200 households!
NEIGHBOURHOOD RENEWAL:
Jim progressing.
TRAINING AT ECC:
Two courses – Sean in the morning, and Paul in the evening. Also a radio course progressing.
SURGERIES:
Easton Community Centre are keen for us to do more. Preferable to coincide with the courses.
Need to create an image for the machines we have to give away.
INSTALL FEST:
End of February or early March. Demonstration machines proving the technology with a few giveaways at the end. We need organisers! End of February is probably a push to give a good pro
motion. Provisionally 17th April to give us enough time. We need at least 20 people involved with helping out.
ST WERBURGH’S:
St. Werburgh’s Community Centre want LTSP in the foyer, and to negotiate about wireless access ASAP. They have ADSL similar to Easton Community Centre.
DEVELOPMENT PLAN
–
BACEN (Bristol Area Community Enterprise Network):
Following a meeting, estimated costs for April 2004-2005 are £80000. This includes paying for an effective 3-4 people on a full-time basis. This, of course, would be made of a few hours here, a few hours there for lots of people.
PREMISES:
We need a workshop to work more effectively. We have approached All Hallows Church about space. Also, an idea to use The Chocolate Factory as it is in a prominent position too!
FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES:
Greater Bristol Foundations, MySociety.org, E-nnovations. We still need small pots of money to keep us rolling over.
PROPOSALS
—-
UNIVERSITY OFFER:
Bristol University want to experiement with links from here to the Will’s building. There is a budget of £1000.
5.8GHz LICENSE:
Cards are expensive, as is cable. Out of budget for now, but a good solution for when we need a decent backbone.
AGM
—
We need an AGM. Preferably in a bigger location than the office, and with some speakers. Officers need to be re-elected at these meetings. Will be incorporated with the next meeting. Provisionally, this will be 16th February 2004 at 18:30.
AOB

VOLUNTEER HELP:
Des has got some (up to four) 6th form students who want to help with the project! We need to set some tasks for them to do every Monday 13:30-15:30. Building machines is possible, as is web browsing for funding.
